    Glad it Germinated in Spring.

  2. User

After preparing the soil as directed and watering regularly as instructed, this grass sprouts well, with a vivid green color. A great choice of grass seed AND it was on sale!

I like this blend. I’m used to the Sun & Shade mix but this took quick and looks great. Seems to be coming in nice and thick. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

not all seeds took; had to reseed

I had brought your Bermuda Grass seeds and did not have a problem. I just decided to take it up because of it’s aggressive growing. I decided I wanted Tall Fescue Grass so after taking up the Bermuda grass I put down The Fescue Grass I had know problem with the seeds growing . But the grass is thin I don’t like the thin blades of grasss and when walked on it lays flat.

3 months ago I bought this Scotts® Turf Builder® Grass Seed Tall Fescue Mix from Lowes, spread it according to instructions, watered properly for 3 weeks. Nothing grew. I had soil tested ph was fine. Added Turf Builder 1.5 cu. ft. Lawn Soil when nothing germinated. That didn’t help only added to my dislike of Scott products. Now I still have a bald spot on my lawn plus weeds I never had before.

  8. User

No seeds germinated. Despsite different areas, watering….

I always thought Scotts was a worthy name and products. They missed it on the Tall Fescue. The majority did not germinate and what little that did was very slow and to come up and mature with following the instructions and care. As the old saying goes “fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me”. I’m done with Scott’s products.

I use Scotts Turf Builder Tall Fescue mix to over seed on my established lawn. You always get some bare spots and burn areas.
In the fall the man that cuts the lawn has a machine that cuts slits into the ground after cutting the lawn shorter. I use my Scotts spreader to put down the grass seed and then water. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I am a licensed landscape contractor here in California, and I always chose Scott’s over any other product. I’ve found that it works better than others. I highly recommend it to any homeowner trying to save a buck or 2. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I have rated the Turf Builder® Tall Fescue Mix 2-star because of the inconsistency of the product and the resulting problems it causes the consumer. Last year I reviewed this grass seed giving it a 5-star rating with the view that it was the best grass seed that I had used. What happened this year? I began re-seeding several patches where unwanted Bermuda grass had invaded. I still had a small amount of the grass seed from last year. I then began planting using up this bag and then continuing with a bag purchased this year. The area where last year’s seed was used had grass seed germinating within a week whereas the area with the new seed showed only a few blades of grass after 17 days. I noticed that the bag that I had purchased this year had an out-of-date sell-by date so I returned it for a fresh bag thinking that was the problem. In calling Scott’s help line, the assistant did not think that it would cause the kind of problem that I was having. I replanted all the areas that I had planted with grass seed from this year. After about 2½ weeks, I had only marginally improved germination – and nowhere near what would be needed to be acceptable. By this time, I was becoming frustrated and annoyed because the optimum time for seeding fescue grass was rapidly disappearing. I noticed with the bag from last year that the seed covering was smooth. The seed covering for the two bags that I purchased this year was rough. I decided to try one more time because of my great success last year. Upon opening the third bag for this year, I noticed that the seed covering was smooth, so I was hopeful. Just to be sure that I was not doing something wrong, I replanted one area with seed from bag 2 and another area from bag 3. After one week, the seed from bag three germinated as thickly as one would expect. The area from bag 2 shows no sign of germination. Since there was a correlation between the outer surface of the seed and its ability to germinate, I hypothesize that the manufacturing process is not consistent, and that the rough water-smart coating covering the seeds prevented them from germinating. Since the non-germinating seed resulted in a considerable duplication of my time and a waste of water, I can no longer recommend this product. If you are lucky, and think that you will pick a good bag, then it should be fine. Just be aware, if you do not, you will likely become frustrated.

bought this brand after trying a couple others, the seed itself looked different, fuller and even. spread rate was good, water in after placing lawn soil on top and I saw new seedlings within 3-5 days on average. after a month most of the area that was previously dying out came back. We recently bought our house #4, The lawn was in poor shape. We used this product on areas that we deemed too big to use the patch work solution and needed alot of reseeding. It sprouted quickly, and soon the sparse lawn looked thick and full again. Thank you Scotts [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Even though this product is really designed for more Southern lawns, I thought I would try it in my NE Ohio lawn on some hot dry spots. Well it worked very well! I’m very happy with how it has filled in so far. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I used Scotts Turf Builder tall fescue this past spring to cover an are approximately 20x 15 feet. Within a week the grass was growing. By three weeks the entire area was covered and dense. Great product. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I tilled the ground and sowed the seed and raked it in. I kept it watered every day except when it rained. I purchased 3 20 pound bags and wasted a lot of money and time. I even tried resowing the seed but had the same results no or very little grass after 28 days. Ended up buying a different brand and had new grass in 6 days. I have purchased Scotts products for over 50 years and this is the worst I have ever purchased.
